Baja 5t RCX Project "5T Desert Racer"

Well..... I have and Idea, lets do an RCX project in 3 weeks. Here is the game plan...

5T Chase/support vehicle/tow truck
Custom trailer
5T Desert race truck

The 2 new Baja 5T's have arrived and will be going under the knife immediately, as I have 3 weeks to get it all done! I will post up pics and a story on how it all goes down. Say bye bye to sleep, and hello to some redbull induced thrash missions.

Part 1.... Chassis

I have decided to make my own chassis to better support the roll cage planned for the desert truck. Today's progress included a new chassis layout and rough cut. Tomorrow will bring the finish cutting and hole drilling, followed up by the breaking of the material into its final shape. Pics coming soon!

I am workin on it. This is a very "wing it" type build. I have given a bit of thought to the basics, but the details will be sorted on the fly. The end result will be fun and look the part. Here is a bit of progress for ya....
The basic chassis design.... I intend to do a tubular cage for the truck, so I wanted to widen the chassis to accept the cage at a wider point. This design will be heavy without a doubt, there is no plans to put this project on the track, but I certainly intend to beat on it in the desert

Looks like it will fit....

Time to tear it down.....

More to come!

I made a good bit of progress today with the final chassis and the roll cage is underway. Here are some pics of the finalized chassis....well, maybe finalized..

Time to mock up some spare tires....

Now I have to modify the main chassis so the protecta Skid Plate fits, its not as flexible as the stock part....

Due to the lack of time I intend to use as many factory components or aftermarket replacements as I can.... I would love to do a full tube chassis, but the time to tab it would be insane..... More to come....
