Modifing Diemaster Pico Failsafe...
Thought I would post some pictures of the modification I did to my brother in-law's Diemaster Pico failsafe relay. He liked how I set mine up so I did the same thing with his, only difference was the failsafe relay. Mine was a TGN relay. This modification makes it way easyer to tell what is going on if your Baja wont start. After I hooked up his failsafe, and tested it with my mutimeter I noticed he needed this LED mod more than I did. The Diemaster LED has to be lit enable to start the engine.
Diemaster Relay
Goop Glue for waterproofing
Factory Green LED - What I do first is get rid of the Green LED. You can melt it off with the soldering iron.
I took a resistor I had and cut off the leads on each end to use to make my connections. Solder them in place and then shrink wraped the leads.
Then bent them around the curcuit board in a way to stabilize the connections made. Then solder on the pigtail and shrink wrap it.
I use a rubber band to hold the wires together. You can remove it later, but I just leave them in place.
Next is the glue. If you look at this picture close you can see I have glued the bottom of the curcuit board. This glue "Goop" will self level its self in only a few minutes. Far more superior in waterproofing than any other glue I have used. Silicone cant touch it.
It will dry to look just like this. Drys with a rubber like feel and is extra clear.
Next I soldered on the opposite side of the pigtail to the Red 3mm LED and shrinked it.
Drilled a 3mm hole into the lid of the battery box and pressed the LED in.
I put some glue around the LED to waterproof the leads. LED leads when exposed to water will rust fast and break. You dont have to do this is you dont plan on getting you baja wet.
I glue all my RX curcuit boards the same way as this failsafe. Works way better than a balloon. If you want ultimate water proofing use the glue and a balloon and a rubber band about the exit of the baloon where the wires are.

Very nice. Makes me what to do that to mine. Is that "goop" available at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts?

what you realy need to do is use the Diemaster kill switch as it is when you buy it and get rid of the fail safe.
you don't need the fail safe any more with the Diemaster kill switch
if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Dirby, "failsafe" is a trem. I have a React radio and it still has failsafe parameters. The Diemaster is a failsafe relay.

Dirby, am I missing something? Didn't he just remote mount an LED to make it easier to see?

Dirby, one of my other hobbies is fixing oldschool Zed Audio amplifiers - (Autotek BTS, Hifonics VII's and VIII's, Rodek) so you can say that I know what I am doing with a simple LED modification.

prety cool mod, I took a short cut with mine. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the top of my radio box and then took a piece of lexan and sealed it over the hole with some epoxy, I then placed my kill unit under the window. Probly would look a lot cleaner if I put the lexan inside the box, but it works...

wow thats great! i never thought of making an external LED. infact u could make the LED ontop of the flags like that blue baja w/ the 2 flags. that way they look normal but u'd never know they serve a purpose other than to be cool
now that spring and sommer are comming i'm trying to make a waterproof one that would work outside the radio box of driving in snow or Jimmy4finger's driving in the ocean this LED mod might further acompany this V.2

Hey Bro,
Your Car is straight up "sick" - looks damn good Bro! All that hard work finally paid off.
Thanks again for your help on my car. The failsafe works great. I really like what you did with the LED and the waterproofing.

Sweet mod Wicked.. I kinda figured that the switch wasn't supposed to be outside of the box, and between laziness and lack of a proper workspace @ the moment, I still hadn't put my Diemaster switch on.
Now I'm kinda wanting to do this on mine B4 I do.

Can you guys explain how this thing kills the engine? It looks like the only plug on it is for the aux on your RX. Doesnt it need wires going to the kill button on the motor?

yes the two wires that are attached to the engine kill switch are routed to the Diemaster kill switch and when somthing abnormal happens the engine Dies.
theese wires plug into the Diemaster kill switch.
