Oiling Redneck Filter

I reading the directions for the Redneck filter and it says it must be oiled. Is this true as the stock filter (blue) is already oiled? I always thought the air filter gets the oil and the prefilter stays dry (although the Redneck is a mix of prefilter and filter). Seems to me by oiling the Redneck, it will attract more dirt with less chance of that dirt shaking loose.

Thanks.

DEFINITELY oil the Redneck, it will work much better than it will if left dry.

Oil for the blue inner and then probably just less than a third of a bottle for the outer pre filter (redneck) - enough to get it fully coated, but then thoroughly squeezed out on kitchen roll paper till no more blue is showing. (Some peops just do the inner of the redneck though I prefer all of it!).

Its also a good idea to grease the inner lip of the blue filter to seal the connection to the black plastic end - to prevent dirt entering from this zone.

You noted that by oiling the redneck - it will attract more dirt - I know what you mean by that - but thats the idea - more dirt on the redneck means less dirt will get thru to the blue inner and hence engine. An outerwear over the redneck will keep your redneck relatively clean anyway.

Storm,
Thanks for the info. I do have the Outerwears which I know will keep most dirt out. Off to oiling I go.

I use HPI blue filter oil on the inner filter and then use K&N filter oil on the TGN prefilter.

Seems to work out fine.

The inner filter is the foam piece that actually goes inside the plastic filter frame. The pre-filter or outer filter is the Redneck or the grey-black stock foam piece that fits over the inner white foam filter. I love the Redneck so much I have 6 of them! Even in dusty conditions if oiled, the Redneck allows you to change the outer filter aprox 3 times for every 1 time you need to change the inner.
