Mielke - LOVE IT!

Well - no matter how much I love the rear dom - had to do something about that insanely loud noise - so went from probably one of the loudest to prolly one of the quietest.....
....And I must say I love the Mielke. The sound is a quiet thunderous roar - which I absolutely can't get enough of!!
Dare I say it but the dom was almost embarassingly loud but with this thing I could listen to it all day.

Of cousre there will be pros and cons - but Im loving the pros so far - no cage melt issues or preventative measures to do. Body can come off with no probs with pipe intact, enough claerance all round (light pods, body, gear cover etc) Aesthetics are cool - balanced handling - yes, the rear now looks a little vacant cause I got used to the rear dom but not really an issue.

Lunatik (?) - thanks for the little bracket mod thread I saw a while ago - really useful (1.5" x 1.5" aluminium angle cut to suit instead of silly wire)
Detail includes some made up some silcone washers at the screw postion (penultimate pic).
Yet to sort out the detail of pipe coupling with teflon or silicone 20mm ID tube etc.

Hi, nice pics!

I have made the switch from the HPI pipe to this sweety mielke. I must say I have been impressed too!

As you say, not only the sound volume is much much lower (I believe it is quite similar to the stock muffer) but the "melody" is entirely different. I hated the HPI pipe for that. Extremely loud, ugly "dry" sound (just IMO). It used to litteraly hurt my ears when the baja was less than 30m from me, rear facing me. I really didn't like that I had to actually think about that during my driving. It used to spoil my trip.

Now the melody of the Mielke is very smooth. It is milky , sweet, it doesn't sound dry at all. Nice to hear, and no problem driving full throttle just 5m away from me. My ears say thanks.

Performance wise, it has increased compared to the HPI. I noticed it the first time I pressed the 3PK trigger . When the 8000rpm sping releases the clutch, the kick is much more powerfull than before. Basically you relly feel the difference of torque.

Top speed. I can't tell. My feeling is that it is unchanged or just a bit more. I need to make some radar gun measurements to be sure of that.

I have already gone through a dozen of rollover on both tarmac and dirt, missed landings off road and so on. Guess what : the Mielke doesn't even have a scratch. Where it is you really need a SIDE impact from a fixed object or another car to damage it. That won't be good if you are racing with many other competitors. That's no problem if you are racing with few competitors or bashing.

I would definetely RECOMMEND this pipe. No way I go back to as ears-tearing pipe like the HPI, Dom, whatever.

ps : the body of the car has melted on the contact surface with the pipe. The black coating has gone too at this very location. For me, not a problem since you can't see this part on the car.

Hey tino_ale - couldn't agree with you more - glad to 'hear' you experienced that same sound as I know they can vary. Very smooth and milky indeed
Yep side collison is always an issue!
Sorry to hear about your body melt issue - I'm assuming you used the stock wire mount, as that did not seem to be long enough? Was it that the final mount position actually touched the body?

Yep for now I'm using the stock wire mount. Once mounted the final position makes a contact point between the pody and pipe. To be honest I really don't mind, the body has gently melted, leaving no residute at all on the pipe. The location where it has melted is impossible to see, so I can live with that

Now I'm wondering how well this pipe performs when mounted on a stock 28.5 big bore kit ??? Anyone knows?

when i ran it on mine i liked it.( i have the 28.5 cc big bore kit non ported with a 23cc bottom end)

it had a really linear power band and was really quiet.

the dom had a bit more( mostly mid range) but nothing to justify all the extra noise.

i found that the GBE just had more ( a lot more) everywhere.( compared to the other 2)

if you can run with the noise i would go with that pipe.

i also found the gbe ( side bleed) has a nice linear power band but there is a lot more punch there when you floor it.

best bang for your buck would be the DOM side or rear IMO

i was fortunate enough to run all three one after another.

these are just what i found when i was running them.

Thanks limeE - yep the GBE certainly looks like a good pipe from what Ive heard and read.

Edit - thanks for the summation re performance stuff too!

Cool!
Re the big bore kit - don't know - but will very soon be putting in a ESP 30.5 complete motor - its sitting on my bench crying for attention but I am unfortunately too busy to take time to do things properly. Will have to wait for a month or so before I can get round to it

I'll look forward to hearing how this pipe does with the larger stuff too.

I here what your saying Baja Storm, but your old pipe sure looked pretty. Not sure this pipe set's your car off as well (and your baja is one of the best I've seen). I think a front chromed dom would have been a good compromise, although if volume is your prime concern couldn't you have fitted a silencer?

if you are looking for a good performing yet very quiet pipe, then the mielke is the pipe to get, good choice.

I ran a ESP 30.5 with a Mielke and loved it. We were doing mostly hill climbing and the
torque was insane. Had a JPv2 before the Mielke and will not go back. Still seemed to rev
out fine and seemed easier to get there. Just be ready to twist and snap some dog bones. JMHO

Your baja looks awesome man! This is the info I was looking for on the Mielke myself. I'm looking for a new pipe to replace my Rear DOM.

That is a trick looking buggy man. Nice work. I think the new side mount dom is a simular design as the Meilke to help make it more quiet.

I've recently switched from a rear Dom. to a side Dom. on one of my Bajas. I gota say I like it.

Dosn't seem to lack in performance and it's way quieter. My ears and neibours thank me.

I'll have to stock up - seems like there's gonna be a bit of serious bones to choose from out there soon.

Thanks RichPG - yep the rear dom was a good un - no doubting the fact! I have a variety of silencers which worked with varying degree - they seem cumbersome to say the least and detracted from the overall look - preferred to go for this pipe as I always liked the look of it - and must say that in the flesh, the Mielke is lightwieght, well built and looks good in all angles - besides all the significant pros of the sound IMO.

Thanks for all your comments guys - the past few days have been real cracking sunnys days (a real change for the UK here recently!) and have been out regular checking the Mielke ---- must say this pipe rocks!

Doug - thanks for your help and advice at the end of last month re long block builds etc. Being short of time, I decided to take one of the 30.5 ESPs from DDM - until I am more thoroughly familar with these motors (I'll be autopsying the 23cc once the 30.5 has been installed). Later in the summer I'll be hopefully getting in touch for some more serious items.
