NEW Rear Lights

So here’s my stab at the rear light option – may be a bit overkill but what the heck !!! (inspired a little by dsracing0_1 and modifiers ones)
(brightness levels adjusted in photoshop to show light detail) - (theses are working rear brake lights BTW)

Was out and about and saw these in a pound shop (50p for two leds, mounts and alloy pods)

They are the ‘go faster’ leds mounts for 1:1 cars that you see on windscreen wipers, interiors, lorry fronts etc. They come with screw hole in the pod and separate mount for mounting to wherever (mount not used here).
Better looking nut/bolts would have been good but these were the ones that came with the led housings.

Silicon fuel tube slotted into alu pod, then heatshrunk. All leds wiring linked to single wire and combination heatshrunk.

Alu plate cut to size to fit under central part of wing (to the extent of the wings two supports that take the pins)

Alu plate drilled with holes (below) for the wing pins (plate will be thicker plate on the final version for real robustness).

All pods then screwed into alu plate - (original wiring shown - this to be linked into single wire)

Illumination set up check.

Lexan piece (surplus off cut from a clear body, already shaped to right angle!) painted with appropriate clear red paint to form cover piece.

Alu plate U shaped lower cover to form protection to heat shrunk wiring from general debris and any exhaust heat etc.

Final car – ready to roll – well almost - just waiting for more hop ups to arrive in sanil mail though!!!!

The red lexan cover piece is bolted at the base and is flexible as much as the tail wing, so hopefully with a roll should be ok – time will tell. The central reinforcement rib is notched to restrain the red cover piece –again very flexible.
The leds / cover piece are well within the recessed ‘protection zone’ that lies between the roll cage and wing rear edge – again time will tell.

Wiring back to power source is within fuel tube for heat and debris protection.

Very,very impressive indeed.

I have seen these lighting kits before whilst looking around the likes of Halfords etc. I always assumed that because they were 12v LED's there wouldn't be enough power coming from the baja Battery to make them work effectively.

Do you have a picture of the LED minus the aluminum housing? I may have an idea.

Cheers Flake - thanks!
Yep - your spot on they're for 12v but for a quid a pair its throw away money compared to some of stuff we spend our dosh on so thought I'd give it a try. Seems to work great so far.

The image shows the led stripped out of the alloy housing. The white stuff is glue gunk whcih seals the led in - I replaced it with serious glue and re fitted the leds/silcone tube rear bits. I was going to re drill the holes and place red 5mm superbrights and re-solder the resistor (lloks like a 270ohm?) but couldn't be bothered (yet!). The originals are 3mm. The use of red leds may negate the use of the cover piece - but I liked the cover any way - seemed a more finished approach.

Nice car! That tire/rim combo is pretty slick!

You would be correct Flake....Some LED's will still work, just not to there full potential.....

Hey guys - thanks for your comments - really appreciate it.

Averone, the battery is currently (sorry for the pun!) stock but will shortly be upgraded (as there are 4 front lights with CBE sets, one mounted up on Modifiers billet front light mount)
