Brakes getting hot, locking up!!!

I just got to run the baja for the first time yesterday. Took it to the sand and was having a blast. After about 10 mins of running I was obviously being slowed down by something. After a while i figured out that the brake was getting HOT and locking up. After about 5 mins cool down, it would unlock and run fine for a couple of mins., only to lock up again. This is a brand new baja. The throttle servo is set up correctly with no drag brake. The only thing I can think of is that it's shimmed too tightly? It has one thin shim in it from the factory. I'm thinking I should pull this out, but wanted to check here first to see if anyone else has run into this problem. Thanks

I had similar problems when I first got mine, cut and install 2 short lengths of a spring from a pen. Put the springs between the pads on the pins like this:

If it still binds then you need to remove the shim.

Install small springs on both pins, between the pads. That will push them open every time you let off the brake. I think there is a thread with directions. Cut a pen spring in half and use them. I actually ended up using what was 1/3 of the spring length for each, but I dont know if the lengths differ with brand pen.

Hope this helps. Try doing a search for the thread on this mod.

Thanks a lot. I'll give that a shot. Seems like a good idea. I think some sand may have gotten between the shims and tightened things up a bit more than they should have been. Thanks for the tip!

had the same problem. sand got behind shim ,which wont allow it to fully open. remove shim and you could use the spring fom a pento place between pads.also if you run in sand you dont need much brake
