Just ordered a 5T.. Hop up questions

I ordered the RPM front A-arms and a Spektrum radio to go with it, but I had questions about the outerwears gear to get.

The 5T comes with a cover over the pull start, should I still get an outerwears cover for the pull start?

What about the crankcase cover? Do you need it for a stock setup?

I'm definitely going to get an outerwears for the air filter. Probably get them for the shocks too. I plan on running in sand most of the time.

Any other suggestions? What about the shock limiting cables? Any other must haves before I put this beast on sand?

Thanks for any advice! I'm way newbish on this.

Scooter
ow pull start filter - needed
ow crank case cover - needed
killer rc limiting cables for the shocks if you plan on getting any air at all
killer rc killswitch if you don't want your baja smashing some innocent kid at the beach or the baja drowning itself in the ocean if signal loss occurs or the throttle linkage gets jammed up from sand.
enclosed clutch carrier setup - needed unless you want to replace clutch shoes every 2-3 tanks.

depends on your budget, the best one out there that will never need to be replaced, and you'll also not break any pinion bolts like is prone to happen with the stock system is the Turtle Clutch system here:

http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.4813/.f

I ordered this 3 days ago myself, it has yet to arrive....but mine hasn't seen the beach yet, until I get this thing installed. Trust me I've been tempted to go without it, but I don't want to ruin my perfectly good stock clutch shoes.

There is a story here of a member that ran this system for a year and never replaced anything....link is here: http://www.hpibajaforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79941

or if you are on a tight budget, the ddm enclosed carrier will work, but there aren't alot of reviews on it that I've found. here: http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.4615/.f

oh, on the radio...I myself use a airtronics mx3 fhss2 2.4 system, was about $140 brand new at the LHS, has been working fine for me when I had my savage x, and now its in use in the baja. no issues with it at all.

very impressive thread on the turtle clutch system.

It's a little late on the Spektrum radio though since it's already ordered. What kind of problems have people been having? Bad enough to cancel the order before it ships?

it's not too late, just use the stock radio for now, and return the spektrum and then order a futaba, or airtronics 2.4 radio.
