And new bodies? I think kraken helped out on that issue. But something most of went sour between hpi & kraken, because i ser no release of the krakens on the hpi website. I think hpi should have sold "roller kits". We all replace motors, arms, suspension and chassis components. Whars next no OBR?

its probably because the profits were not there for HPI. For them, their 10th and lower scale stuff sells infinitely better. While i think a bit of a price drop, rollers and kits (abandoning the pre-built, and the overly high cost) would have helped. For them though, if they make 100k every 6 months with their 5th scales, but make 500k every 6th month in small scale stuff, the choice is easy.

They probably backed out, or Kraken backed out when they sensed major issues with HPI's 5th scale scene and instead opted to back out early. I mean we have seen stuff for the 5b on-road for what a year now but theres nothing to show. If i were kraken, id see that as a potential loss of income and cut out early.

OBR and other brands wont go away so long as people are still running the cars. Just because HPI has shot themselves int he foot doesnt mean every other company that makes 5th scales is going to magically disappear. How many times do people replace A-Arms, suspensions, drive links, cups, gears of various sorts and other components? Monthly? weekly in some cases? How often do you go buy a new truck?

When my engine goes, or when i finish everything else and opt for a bit more power for the weight (it has gained a bit since i got it, due to the cage, fueler and alum. parts) i will be buying an OBR. My brother will likely upgrade to an OBR as well when his engine goes, or when he feels the need for a tap more power due to extra weight as well. In the meantime, support the aftermarket groups and they wont be going anywhere.

The fact is, their smaller scales sell probably 3 times faster than the 5th scales, if not more.
Why spend $1,000 on an outdated 5th scale when for a few hundred more there are 4wd 5th scales? If I were HPI I would stop re-releasing the same 5B and go to the drawing board with a true 4wd 5th scale, not a stretched Savage, and try to make it both competitive to the Losi in performance and price.

Unfortunately the way the RC industry works today is outsourcing
no one builds them for themselves and the clone companies build them for them
And agree not to sell a copy of there own for a year or two
So as for putting Hpi or losi out of business buy getting a clone after a year or two is not going to happen
Hpi has been bought and sold three times that I know of in the last couple of years
And the people that made the car are long gone from the company so you might as well get what you want clone or not
Yes I said that I have bad mouthed clones for years but in this case it's dead for 1/5 Hpi cars
And the same holds true for losi they don't make there cars also
But I don't think that any clone will have as good of quality as the original

TBH i bought the 5b BECAUSE it was RWD, the simple fact is they are the only ones who offer a RWD truck/buggy and that has its selling point. I dont really care for AWD, its kinda boring to drive (IMHO) and because of that i didnt shell out more money for a AWD platform.

That said, i will be buying a Vekta, its just a sexy truck

HPIs problem is they kept teasing us with the Mustang bodied road car and never came through, I won't buy another HPI product because of it.

Yes I can prove it but the man that told me this works for losi and probably won't say it on a web page
I used to see him once a year at power jam but now that's gone
So probably not to the prove it question
He said Losi had changed suppliers for the 5ive T
And I have two of the original ones and I got one of the new ones to make a buggy out of
There is a difference between them
The new cars are better plastics wise and softer steel wise
But it is the truth

You can't find a 5R anywhere, Tower changes the stock date every time its due. They are out of stock on any Baja and DDM doesn't have stock either.
